"Measure Twice and Cut Once"

What compels our city’s political leaders to set the bar as low as possible? In the matter of the CCII land transfers it appears that the City Attorney has mastered the minutia and that city leaders can charge ahead legally without a citizen’s vote. But should they? Is the spirit of the law not of greater importance? Did those who composed the rules ever imagine a project of CCII’s controversy and magnitude? This is the larger issue.

Council is engaging in a study that will conclude this summer. That would leave plenty of time for a series of public meetings in the fall that could culminate in putting the issue on the November ballot.

We’ve lived with the blight for so many years, what’s the harm in a few more months? A financially sound project implemented by “best of breed” developers and investors would have widespread support…enough to clear a high bar.
